Research Directions
Fundamental Research:
Main research direction: investigation of the patterns of formation of aquatic plant communities, their inventory and classification, with the aim of using them as synbioindictors of the ecotoxicological state of aquatic ecosystems and its changes under anthropogenic influence.
Applied Research:
- Laboratory cultivation of freshwater cyanobacteria and green algae.
- Assessment of the effects of agricultural preparations (pesticides, agrochemicals) on the vital activity of aquatic organisms at various trophic levels (fish, invertebrates, algae).
Results
- The characteristics of the influence of hydrodynamic factors (current velocity, water level fluctuations, and wave height) on the structure of epiphyton developing on macrophytes of various ecological groups in the Kaniv Reservoir have been identified.
- For the first time, the response reactions of epiphytic and planktonic algae to pollution of water bodies with high concentrations of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, chlorides, and organic substances have been identified.
- Bioindication of the state of the Kyiv and Kaniv Reservoirs based on indicator characteristics of phytoepiphyton has been carried out.
- Cultivation conditions for green and cyanobacterial microalgae have been optimised through the selection of effective nutrient media, temperature, and lighting regimes.
- An assessment of the ecotoxicological state of the Kaniv Reservoir under the influence of Kyiv city has been made.
- The current contamination state of Kyiv lakes with petroleum products and heavy metals has been assessed.
- The adaptation mechanisms of aquatic organisms at various trophic levels (fish, hydrophytes) to toxic substances of different chemical natures (heavy metals, petroleum products, inorganic phosphorus) in the aquatic environment have been elucidated.
